Handmade Holidays week ?

I miss-numbered the weeks and I don't really know what week I am on and I am a day late too. Oh well. As long as it is finished by Christmas, right?

I have been working on a rag t-shirt quilt for Brown Bear. I have had the hardest time thinking of something for him and this seemed perfect. He is building new beds for his room and what better to go with that then a new blanket for his bed. ( i mean all he has asked for is a fedora. what?) I had someone help me get started and then I finished on my own. It turned out nicely, but not quite how I had pictured it at first. I wanted it to be a little bigger and with a flannel edge. The fabric store didn't have any nice flannel (unless I wanted Thomas the Train) so I went with a fleece back with brown bears on it. (appropriate, right? Yeah, I didn't even get the connection until my friend pointed it out to me.)(I don't have a picture of the quilt and it is wrapped so I will take one after Christmas. and please ignore the dirty socks!)

I also have been working on pettiskirts for the little girls. I don't think that I would EVER do it again. Ruffling 1080 inches of chiffon wasn't fun. I finished Koala's today. She wasn't happy about it at first, then kept saying "Pretty!Pretty!". It helped that we bribed her with cherry sours too. :)

Only one and half weeks left. 2 projects left to finish up and another gift to pick out. We are just about done and I am SO happy!

What are you working on this week?

Handmade Christmas week 8

I know I didn't get around to posting last week, but we are still trying to tie up so many loose ends on several projects. So please forgive for that. I know how many of you were waiting on Tuesday morning to see just what I would put up. hehe

This was our most ambitious project yet. Again thanks to Ana White who posts so many wonderful plans for people like us. This plan was actually from Pieces for Reese via Ana White. So simple and turned out super cute. What is it you ask? A bunk bed/ changing table for 18" dolls (like American Girl dolls). Brown Bear did a fantastic job on it using mostly scrap wood and cardboard. We also made a mattress, pillow, and quilt with fabric that we had on hand. The project cost us $2 total. Lioness is making some clothes to go with it too. We also plan on making some small boxes(similar to these) to go on the bottom to hold the clothes and other necessities.

We still have so many projects in the works that we need to finish up very quickly. I have really enjoyed working with the kids on the projects, but there have been a few times that I was ready to burn them and just buy something. Not because the kids were driving my crazy, but because I didn't plan well or things didn't fit like they were suppose to or it was taking too long. I think that this has been a very good plan for us to increase our frugalness in seeing what is already on hand that we could use and to keep us working together as teams to finish each project. I can't wait to show you the rest of them.

P.S. I have a couple of suggestions for your husband that are very frugal if you are at a loss as I am. However I am going to leave the link in the comments of my fb so if you aren't me friend you can let me know in the comments and I will send you the links if you are interested.
