We made a new Advent Calendar for our family this year. While I am going to wait until next year to post the details (cuz it is going to be part of my family fun night feature) I thought I would post about each day and what we did.
I found this link (on Pinterest of course. Was there life before Pinterest?)on the different names of the Lord and added those to our Advent Calendar.
Today's Giving Hope Act was buying dinner for the person behind us in line at the fast food restaurant. We chose McDonald's because it usually stays busy and someone was almost guaranteed to get in line behind us. My grandma was with us too so this added to the festivities! (said in a sarcastic voice.)
Brown Bear was so excited he was literally bouncing in his seat. They all wanted to turn around and see what the lady thought when she rolled up to the window to find it was paid for. As Brown Bear put it. "She is just sitting back there counting her money and has no idea that someone is getting ready to bless her!" I think the McDonald's worker was more surprised than the lady behind us. She just couldn't understand why we wanted to do this. I glanced in my side mirror to try and catch her face. She had a big grin!
I think this blessed us far more than we blessed her. The kids wanted to do it everyday and loved the anonymity of it.
We then went on to do some Christmas shopping for a mission project the kids are part of. They enjoyed this too and I was grateful to see their spirit of giving and sacrifice come to the front. I won't deny that there were a few moments when I was ready to pack them all up and go home (try pushing Grandma around Rue 21 in a wheelchair. Yeah we left a path of destruction behind us.), but all in all it was a great evening and I even got my grocery shopping done too!
