Day 14 Take a basket of food to someone. We knew this was coming up, so we contributed to several food baskets and also took some food to a home where it was needed.
The name for the day was Light of the World. This one was a good one for the younger ones because they actually grasp the concept of light and dark so this made sense to them.
Day 15 Write a letter of thanks to the trash man. You have to understand that I tried really hard to get our previous trash man fired. Now he is the water man. My dad said I better be careful or we will be without water! So I am thankful for this trashman. He actually empties the trashcans and puts them back on the curb without breaking them. WOW huh?
The name for the day was Day spring. This one was a little more difficult, but we discussed the life giving properties of a spring.
Day 16 Random act of kindness. Is it ok that I say I can't remember what we did. I know we accomplished this one, but my memory is a little fuzzy on this one.
The name was The Word. We talked about how the Word was more than just the Bible. How the Word is brought life to nothing. The Word speaks life into our worn out spirits.
Day 17 Help someone else with their chores. I don't know why my kids have the hardest time helping each willingly. But they do and this was designed to help them have a more giving spirit toward each other and not just strangers. It didn't go as well as I had hoped, but it is done and they survived!
The name was servant. This one really hit home since this advent calendar was designed to be focused more on others and their needs. We talked about what a true servant heart looks like. My heart needs to be transformed more to look like a servant and not like a selfish person who does things for praise. This one kinda hurt!
Day 18 Clean the house for mom so she could have a break for the afternoon. They cleaned and I sat at the ER with my grandma. Not the break I was looking for! They did do a good job though and I was very happy that I didn't need to clean when I got back.
The name was King. Since royalty is more prominent right now, with Kate and Will's wedding, this was a fun one to talk about. How could He be a King and a servant? Is it possible to be both?
Day 19 Tell your family that you love them every single day. The child that wrote this is really good about telling ZK and I and some of their siblings. Are you children selective sometimes? I was kinda surprised that they wrote this, but it has been good to hear them say it. Makes me smile when I want to scream.
The name was Rose of Sharon. ZK looked it up on a word study website (not sure which one or I would link to it.) and it told how the Rose is considered the perfect flower and the symbol for love. Sounds spot on right? The valley of Sharon grew beautiful, lush vegetation apparently and this is a name that the Israelites could really identitfy with.
It feels good to get caught up again. Hopefully I can keep it up better. As long my grandma doesn't have any low blood pressure, fainting spells.
