Day 6 and 7 Advent Calendar

Day 6 was volunteer at a shelter. My kids are the most nervous about this. Getting out of our comfort zone is what this is all about though, right? We are going to a place in Muskogee on Saturday with their karate organization. They are also excited because it is a kid's home and they like to make new friends. I will post pictures after we go.

The name for the day was Firstborn of all creation. This one was a little trickier for the younger kids to get, but they still tried and asked lots of question. How do explain before there was nothing there was God? That is still hard for me to wrap my mind around.

Day 7 is making cookies for the librarians. We will make the cookies tomorrow and deliver them on Friday. We really appreciate our librarians and all the programs they arrange for the kids. Especially Lindsey! (Is it ok to have a favorite librarian?)

The name for the day is Unspeakable Gift. This discussion blew me away with the answers that they gave. After asking what the Gift was here is what they said. Brown Bear: Jesus came to die for us. Lioness: He was the Gift. Monkey: He gave us eternal life. Parrot: His death gave us freedom from the Law! (this was my favorite answer and I will explain why in a minute.) Lion Cub: So we can live in Heaven with our other loved ones.

Freedom from the Law is what sets us apart from other religions. Jesus died so that we could be free. If it just shackled us to the Law where is the gift in that? It is NOT works based and we don't have to follow any Laws. Our desire to be more like Christ is what drives our actions (mostly) NOT because we have too. Don't ever get lost in that! We are FREE, FREE, FREE in Christ! What an unspeakable gift!


The reason we have 2 days together again is because we had Pukefest 2011 a couple of days ago and that put us behind.
