This was case recently when our friend's dad passed away. The funeral was going to be held in a little town a short drive away. On our way out of town I stopped at Target to get Lion Cub a new pair of dress shoes and a belt so he wouldn't look like he just rolled out of bed. he loves getting new stuff so this was really cool for him.
When we arrived at the funeral he saw his friends and they immediately started playing. We oohed and awwwed over the new baby and then took our seats. I hadn't really thought to explain to Lion Cub what was going on because all the other kids had been to funerals and knew what to expect.
Right after the funeral started, ZK's uncle, aunt and cousin slipped in the back. Lion Cub was really happy now and could barely sit still through the rest of the service. After filing past the body, we hugged our friends and made our way out.
Then we went to lunch with the ZK's family. The kids loved it since we don't see this side as much as we would want. Following a late lunch we headed back to my parents to pick up Grandma.
When we got there Lion Cub went to sit in papa's lap because that is one of his favorite places to be. I overheard this hilarious conversation.
Papa: What did you do today?
Lion Cub: We ate with Uncle J and went to a party.
Papa: I thought you were going to a funeral
Lion Cub: Nope. We went to this party and did you know they had a dead guy there?
Papa (trying not to die laughing): Isn't that what a funeral is for?
Lion Cub: Well everyone else was alive. It makes no sense!
Are you laughing as hysterically as I did? Funny, funny boy!
