This friend, we shall call her Red, definitely has the gift of service. I met her about 17 years ago. She was going through a really hard time in her life with the passing of her infant son. So our friendship didn't really start deepening until a year or so later.
When she became pregnant again, she had to go on bed rest for 16 weeks. Did I call and offer to clean house? Bring her a meal? Just come over for a chat? That answer is no.
When I had Brown Bear, 6 months after she had her sweet little girl, she was the first one to show up with dinner. When I had Lioness, she was there. Same with baby #3, #4, #5 and #6. Mind you she was pregnant several times, right along with me. Yet she was there time after time.
I watched while she brought dinner to sick ones in our church. She made herself available to an older man in our church who didn't have family close. She invited over people who needed a friend. She took dinner to another lady every single week for a long time until they could care for themselves again. She will help you track down information and make sure you received it. she has also brought dinner several times since my grandma started staying with us. She came to the hospital and helped my parents make some choices on care for my grandma because she had just one through it with her grandma. She even watched my kids for 3 days so I could go to Las Vegas one year with my brother!
She is always in the loop on the newest and coolest stuff out there. Often she will show up with a bottle of this or bag of that just so I can try it too. This is especially wonderful when it is some new candy!
I have learned to be on the watch for ways to serve others more. To be more intentional in my care for them and be thoughtful to those who might be suffering quietly.
Thank you Red for blessing our family with your gift of service!
